What is semi-permanent makeup (cosmetic tattooing)?Also known as cosmetic tattooing, micro-pigmentation, or permanent makeup— In Australia we use the term Semi-permanent. This technique involves carefully implanting pigment into the skin to enhance your natural features. Think of it like fuss-free makeup that doesn’t wash off. Most commonly, it’s used to shape and define brows, lips, or eyeliner.

How does cosmetic tattooing work?We use a digital machine to gently place pigment into the skin. Every appointment includes a thorough consultation, the initial treatment, and a perfecting session 4–6 weeks later. It’s all about achieving a natural, tailored result.

Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but most clients find the treatment very manageable. While we don’t provide numbing cream, we highly recommend purchasing and applying a topical anaesthetic before your appointment (we’ll send you all the info on what to get and how to use it!). We’ll also chat through everything during your consultation to make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.

What’s the difference between microblading and machine brows?While microblading hair stroke looking brows was once popular, we choose not to offer it. It’s not suitable for all skin types and can often lead to long-term issues like scarring and unnatural fading. Instead, we exclusively use the machine method—a more traditional, refined approach that allows for soft shading or defined results depending on your preference. It’s gentle on the skin, works well across most skin types, and gives a more natural, longer-lasting finish. We'll tailor the style to suit you during your consultation.

How long does cosmetic tattooing last?Everyone’s skin is unique, but you can usually expect your cosmetic tattoo to last between 1–5 years but could last longer. A yearly colour boost helps keep things looking fresh. Oily skin types may fade faster or lighter natural looking tattoos.

How do I choose the right cosmetic tattoo artist?You’ll want someone qualified, experienced, and fully licensed (like holding a Skin Penetration Licence here in QLD). Take a look at their portfolio, read reviews, and always book a consultation to make sure you feel confident and comfortable. At Chloe Regan Cosmetic Clinic we hold a current Penetration Licence through Noosa Council. Up to date Infection Control Certificate and Cosmetic Tattooing Qualification, Chloe is also a Dermal Therapist and has a deep understanding of skin.

Is cosmetic tattooing safe in Queensland?Absolutely—when done by a trained, licensed professional following strict hygiene standards, it’s very safe. Reactions are rare, and we’ll go through aftercare in detail to ensure everything heals beautifully. We offer post care to help avoid any unwanted side effects.

What’s the downtime after a cosmetic tattoo procedure?You can get back to most normal activities pretty quickly. Expect a little swelling or redness—especially with lips or eyeliner—and the colour will look more intense at first. It softens nicely over the first week. Best not to book right before big events!

How long does a cosmetic tattooing appointment take?Plan for around 1–2 hours. This gives us time to chat through your goals, map out the perfect shape, and apply your pigment carefully. Some smaller treatments may take less, but we like to take our time and get it just right.

How long does it take to heal after a cosmetic tattoo?Initial healing usually takes 3–7 days, with full healing in about two weeks. You might notice some dryness or flaking, but we’ll walk you through how to care for it. After eyeliner, your eyes may be a little watery—so maybe skip the drive home just in case.

What should I expect right after a cosmetic tattoo appointment?Your brows or liner will look a bit bolder,and lips a bit brighter —that’s totally normal and fades, within a few days. You might have some swelling or dryness, especially with lips, but it settles within a few days.

When should I book a cosmetic tattoo touch-up or colour boost?We recommend a follow-up 4–6 weeks after your first appointment to refine the shape and colour. After that, most clients come in once a year for a refresh—if you find yourself reaching for makeup again, that’s a good sign it’s time.
