About

About Cosmelan & Dermamelan Peels

Cosmelan and Dermamelan by Mesoestetic is a clinical topical treatment specifically formulated to not only depigment the skin at surface level but also treat underlying causes. This effectively removes and lightens dark patches, resulting in a brighter, smoother, and more even complexion.

Both Cosmelan and Dermamelan treatments being with an in-clinic peel application followed by a simple daily home-care routine.

Cosmelan® &  Dermamelan® are clinical depigmentation treatment programs designed to reduce pigment caused by sun exposure, post inflammatory pigment and melasma. They are suitable for all skin types and skin colours.

Cosmelan

Cosmelan® works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase responsible for production of melanin in the skin through corrective and preventative action.

  • Corrective action –This corrective process reduces the amount of melanin synthesis, stimulates cell renewal, and intensively combats the accumulation of melanin in the superficial skin layer to fade away existing unwanted pigmentation, resulting in a brighter and more even skin tone.

  • Preventative action – By inhibiting tyrosinase activation and reducing the function of tyrosinase, the melanin is prevented from reaching the skin surface, decreasing the formation of new unwanted pigmentation.

Dermamelan

Dermamelan works similarly to Cosmelan but with a stronger corrective and regulating action as it contains higher amounts of the active ingredients found in Cosmelan. Dermamelan may cause slightly more redness, reaction, and sensitivity for the first few months therefore it is reserved for more severe pigmentation issues such as dermal melasma and stubborn pigmentation.

The choice between Cosmelan® or Dermamelan® will be discussed in a face-to-face consultation, each treatment has its advantages and disadvantages depending on your skin type and depth of pigment.

Please note: these peels remove most of the superficial pigmentation but will not remove all of it. They are not a cure for future reoccurring pigmentation. You may have red, sensitive skin for a few months post treatment- this is an expected outcome after a strong peel.

We are realists and will never sell you a” miracle” cure - what we can offer is an evidence-based approach designed to combat pigmentation for the long term and a team of experienced skin professionals who will support you. Our before and afters are great examples of our real results, with no filters or touch-ups.

Our depigmentation protocols are customised to your skin. We focus on education and ongoing maintenance to give you the best long-term outcomes for your pigmentation concerns.

Recommended Plan & Process

Phase 1:  Involves clinical application of a thick mud like mask which takes 30 minutes. You will go home with the mask on. We recommend booking your treatment in the morning, depending on which depigmentation treatment you have, this mask will be left on for 4, 8, 10 or 12 hours depending on your skin type, this will be discussed on your initial consultation.

Phase 2: Consists of a 4–6-month home care maintenance program, which is critical to the success of the treatment, you will receive your home maintenance products on the day of your treatment and your home protocol will be discussed with you.

Expected Downtime / Aftercare

Day 1-4:  Expect red, tight, and swollen skin.

Day 4-5: Peeling will start around this time and may last 7-10 days. It is very important NOT to pick, rub or exfoliate the skin. Allow skin to shed naturally. If you pick the skin, you will increase the risk of infection and scarring.

Everyone’s skin reacts differently and can be more or less reactive than another person, it is important to keep in contact our clinic for us to help guide you through your process.

Expectation

Results will appear 2-3 weeks post treatment.  Expect a significant improvement in pigmentation as well as clearer, brighter skin. Your skin will slowly improve over the next few months. Be patient and aim for progress not perfection.

Results vary from person to person, the best results we see with these treatments is up to a 90% reduction in pigmentation, a 100% reduction or improvement is unrealistic with any treatment.

On going maintenance is recommended to enhance longevity well after your treatment results, we can help remove current pigmentation, but we cannot prevent future pigment especially pigmentation such a hormonal induced pigment. We will provide long term advise to help prevent future pigment.

Maintenance treatments of Dermamelan and Cosmelan is recommended at 12-24 months.

Our Chloe Regan Cosmelan® & Dermamelan® De-pigmentation programs include:

  • Consultation – To discuss treatment option, in depth treatment and skin assessment. Treatment expectations, downtime, and home care protocols.

  • In clinic application of the peel and de-pigmentation homecare pack.

  • Post treatment soothing treatment, LED, and hydration repair mask, we recommended at day 5-8.
